Colleagues Take Part in Regional Disaster Drill

On October 18, representatives from Loyola, Gottlieb and MacNeal participated in a regional disaster drill. The exercise involved a discussion about how the hospitals would respond in the event of a mass casualty. Topics included the triage and care of patients, use of resources and well-being of colleagues. Area hospitals, first responders, public health and emergency management agencies participated.
Loyola Medicine’s emergency management preparedness team conducts regular exercises to test our readiness for a major incident.
We thank the colleagues who participated, as well as Paul Banks, Melissa Herlihy, Rita Rice and Dawn Wujcik, who served on the exercise planning team. Mark Cichon, DO, FACEP, FACOP, professor and chair, emergency medicine and division director, emergency medical services, and Richard Gonzalez, MD, FACS, Loyola Medicine’s division director of trauma, surgical critical care and burns, lead LUMC’s response planning for mass casualty incidents and provided research results and further insight into mass casualty response.
